 Product Description

Our .22 caliber aluminum gas checks are made about .006 taller than the Gator .22 gas checks, so they will fit a little tighter on a tapered shank. Tested to work on the Lee Bator .22 bullets. Aluminum gas checks are good for reduced barrel fouling and the lower cost. These are made on the same tooling as our copper gas checks.

The checks are sold in resealable clear plastic bags. USPS flat rate boxes and First Class mail are used to reduce shipping cost.

Sold in 4 quantities: 100 for $3.99, 250 for $5.25, 500 for $9.50 and 1000 for only $17.00.

  1. AL .22 GC are sweet! 5 Star Review

Posted by on Aug 20th 2020

I cast and shoot .223 and I like running a GC on most, the AL .22 GC from Sage are awesome in function and cost! Pushing little .223 pill out of my pistol sometimes requires a GC due to the powder or speed I'm loading for and it is nice to have choices ( copper or AL).

  2. Great Product 5 Star Review

I'm crimping these on a 51 grain spire point from a NOE mold with a base that measures .209 and they hold on pretty good. They work great and are cheap compared to the copper, but by using them I can push the velocity up to 2800 FPS.As always a great product with a great price what's not to like.I have bought several different calibers of GCs from Sages over the years and have had nothing but excellent results.I would highly recommend them to anyone reloading.

  3. Tricky 5 Star Review

Posted by on May 26th 2020

There are no complaints. These 22 caliber gas checks did crimp on...after several attempts.

What I had problems with was the cast 22 bullet which is of course...small, and the gas checks were grabbing as pushing bullet through the Lee bullet sizer causing a protruding ridge off the metal of the bottom of the gas check. Un-usable.

Reminder..gas checks are small and cumbersome due to bullet being so small. And I used the Kee 224 and 225 bullet sizer. Both sizer diameter caused the metal pulling ridge off the gas check bottom.

I finally found that I had to place gas check on base of bullet and push it on then sit the bullet on it’s base then use a small plastic head hammer to lightly tap the head of the Lee cast bullet once then run the bullet through the Lee bullet sizer “Base” first and presto!! The Sage GC’s crimped on nicely.

I also will suggest using light pressure running the cast 22 bullet through the Lee sizer...using increasing pressure til the bullet gas check crimps on then bullet slides through.

Yes...this process takes a little more time compared to normal sizing/gas checking..but just remember....the 22 cast bullets are small...really small! But the overall cost per 1,000 22 bullets is small as well. Average cost per bullet with GC for me is 4 cents per bullet. And it is a hobby of course.

The gas checks are not the issue as I use Sage gas checks for my 30 cal cast bullets with excellent results.

  6. Worked Great 5 Star Review

Posted by on Nov 14th 2019

I purchased the Sage aluminum checks in .223 for use in my AR-15 using the Lee 55 gr bullets. It shot very well with much tighter groups over none gas checked bullets. I will buy again.

  7. Base diameter too small 2 Star Review

Posted by on Nov 9th 2019

Base too small to fit reliably on LEE .224 cast bullet base with one light coat Hi-Tek bullet coating. Will try with uncoated bullets and use lube in groves.

Shamus Sage: Sorry they didn't work for you. Your copper .22's are on the way.

  8. Best Price Great Product 5 Star Review

Posted by on May 24th 2019

I've been using the Sage aluminum checks in many calibers for about 6 years. Their .22 cal checks have worked great for me on LEE's 55 gr bullet in .22 cal. I use the 6 cavity mold and cast of straight WW. My load is chronoed at 2000 fps and I shoot these bullets out of two bolt guns and a "Designated" cast bullet AR15 that I built to exclusively shoo t cast bullets. I have easily fired less than 1" groups in all of my rifles and use this load/bullet for shooting Nevada ground squirrels, jack rabbits and coyotes, all out to 200 yards.
